    Klaas Koopmans 1920-2006

    In 2020 is het een eeuw geleden dat de Friese kunstschilder Klaas Koopmans werd geboren. Koopmans was een autodidact, leefde in eerste instantie van zijn werk als huisschilder, maar groeide daarna uit tot een van de belangrijkste kunstschilders van de twintigste eeuw in Fryslân.

    Dit boek schetst de ontwikkeling van zijn kunstenaarschap. Vier auteurs gaan vanuit verschillende invalshoeken in op Koopmans’ plaats binnen de Friese cultuur, zijn verhouding tot het Friese expressionisme en hoe zijn werk met een psychiatrische achtergrond valt te kwalificeren. Afsluitend is er speciale aandacht voor de brieven van Koopmans in de periodes dat hij opgenomen was in psychiatrische inrichtingen.

    Dit boek toont met zijn vele illustraties de kracht van Koopmans’ werk.
