    Michael J. Benton is hoogleraar paleontologie van gewervelden en hoofd van de wereldwijd toonaangevende paleobiologische onderzoeksgroep aan Bristol-universiteit. Hij heeft meer dan vijftig boeken geschreven, inclusief The Dinosaurs Rediscovered (2019) en When Life Nearly Died (2015). Bob Nicholls verzorgde de indrukwekkende kleurenillustraties.
