Hij schrijft over zijn ervaringen, observaties en overpeinzingen, van de jaarlijkse olijvenpluk en het gebruik van de percolator tot de afunctionele schoonheid van Italiaanse auto’s en de illegale prostitutie langs de weg. Of zoals de Umbriërs het zelf zo treffend zeggen: ‘Tiriamo avanti! We slepen ons voort!’
Marc van der Aart (1964) richtte bedrijven op in Haarlem en New York, introduceerde de fietsen van Van Moof in de Verenigde Staten en presenteerde tal van culturele programma’s en podcasts. Sinds vijf jaar woont hij met zijn vrouw, twee katten, een hond en een paar kippen aan de rivier de Tiber. Samen runnen ze een Bed and Breakfast.
Het dialectendoeboek
€ 17,50Het Meertens Instituut in Amsterdam verzamelt al 90 jaar gegevens over de Nederlandse dialecten. Medewerkers van het instituut trokken het land in om overal, eerst met pen en papier, later met bandrecorders en nog later laptops, opnamen te maken van hoe mensen spraken. De klok werd stilgezet en na een kopje koffie vertelden mensen hoe het leven en hoe de taal vroeger was. Omdat
vanaf het begin vooral ook oudere mensen werden geïnterviewd, krijgen we zo een inkijk in de taal van de Nederlanders tot diep in de negentiende eeuw. In de afgelopen decennia heeft het Meertens Instituut heel veel gegevens uit dat onderzoek gedigitaliseerd en online geplaatst: duizenden uren geluidsopnamen, door lokale dialectliefhebbers ingevulde vragenlijsten, landkaarten waarop is ingetekend waar bepaalde woorden werden gebruikt, en veel meer. Het is een digitale schatkamer voor onderzoekers.In het Dialectendoeboek demonstreren 35 dialectwetenschappers op een aanstekelijke manier wat er allemaal te halen is en op welke manier iedereen zelf het goud kan delven uit de digitale mijnen die vierentwintig uur per dag open liggen.
Het Meertens Instituut houdt zich bezig met de bestudering en documentatie van Nederlandse taal en cultuur. Centraal staan de verschijnselen die het alledaagse leven in onze samenleving vormgeven.
Victor Horta and the Frison House in Brussels

The absolute eyecatcher is the winter garden, whose elegant design allows soft yellow light to flow subtly into its perfectly proportioned space.Nupur Tron is the author of this book and owner of the house. In recent years, she has breathed new life back into Horta’s masterpiece. She pieced together bits of the old chandeliers she found in one of the cellars. She had items of furniture designed by Horta lovingly restored. With great passion, she continues to search for the funds that will allow her to restore the entire house to its former glory, one step at a time.
Horta and the Frison House in Brussels is an ode to the architect and his creation.
Nupur Tron is from India. She studied Design, Marketing & Merchandising and Fine Arts at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. She designs jewellery, in which the different styles of east and west meet in harmony.
Humanity is not a plague

Cees Buisman studied water purification engineering, in addition to business administration, communication theory and applied integral psychology. Throughout his life he has worked on new environmental technologies, which are used in industry all over the world. His scientific work is highly cited. Buisman is the Director of Wetsus – European Center for Sustainable Water Technology, and Professor at Wageningen University, in the Netherlands.
