    Met veel te weinig manschappen, militair materieel en slechts met geïmproviseerde versterkingen verdedigde het Nederlandse leger in mei 1940 de Friese Wonsstelling tegen de Duitse aanval. Dit met unieke foto’s en kaarten geïllustreerde boek geeft een uitputtend verslag van de voorbereidingen en de gevechtshandelingen, gebaseerd op nooit eerder gepubliceerde verslagen en persoonlijke aantekeningen van militairen en burgers. De strijd, die aan Nederlandse zijde 18 doden kostte, werd altijd terloops beschreven als voorspel van de aanval op Kornwerderzand. Voor het eerst krijgen de militairen die in de Wonsstelling hebben gediend een waardig eerbetoon in dit naslagwerk.

    Adjudant b.d. Jacob Topper (75) is plaatsvervangend conservator van het Kazemattenmuseum Kornwerderzand en werkt al ruim dertig jaar als vrijwilliger voor dit museum.
