Vervolgens werd de auto als heilige koe omarmd en dreigden grachten gedempt en terpen geslecht te worden: rijden, rijden, rijden… Tot de babyboomers in opstand kwamen: niet alles hoeft plat.
Babyboomer en oud-redacteur van de Leeuwarder Courant Pieter de Groot (1946) besloot in 1997 deze en andere gebeurtenissen uit het stadsverleden in herinnering te roepen in de zaterdagkrant, met als kapstok vaak een actueel onderwerp. Van de inmiddels meer dan duizend columns liet hij er voor zijn 75ste verjaardag 75 uitzoeken. Na ruim 25 jaar blijkt niets zo vluchtig als de actualiteit en niets zo moeilijk als het voorspellen van de toekomst.
