Victor Horta and the Frison House in Brussels

commissioned by Maurice Frison, a lawyer and friend of the architect, and was built in 1894-1895. Horta designed not only the house, but also all its furniture and decoration, right down to the smallest detail: from door handles to marble fireplaces, from mosaic floors to elegant banisters, from wall lamps to the gratings for the cellar openings. The absolute eyecatcher is the winter garden, whose elegant design allows soft yellow light to flow subtly into its perfectly proportioned space.Nupur Tron is the author of this book and owner of the house. In recent years, she has breathed new life back into Horta’s masterpiece. She pieced together bits of the old chandeliers she found in one of the cellars. She had items of furniture designed by Horta lovingly restored. With great passion, she continues to search for the funds that will allow her to restore the entire house to its former glory, one step at a time.

Nijhuizum
€ 17,50Net ten oosten van Workum ligt verscholen in het landschap de ‘boerebuorren Nijhúzum’. In dit eeuwenoude dorpje dat omringd is door water en landerijen staat Frieslands kleinste kerk. In het Godshuis uit 1721, omringd door het oude kerkhof, lijkt de tijd te hebben stilgestaan. Het eenvoudige en intieme interieur zonder elektriciteit, verwarming of stromend water is bijzonder sfeervol en puur. Toch blijkt uit bouwhistorisch onderzoek in deze publicatie dat ook dit kerkinterieur geheimen kent, en meer ontwikkelingen heeft doorgemaakt dan bij de eerste aanblik gedacht.
Onder de voorwaarde dat het een plaats van bezinning zou blijven werd het gebouw bij het opheffen van de kerkgemeente halverwege de jaren zeventig van de twintigste eeuw overgedragen aan Stichting de Nijhúzumer Tsjerke. Hoe er na ruim 700 jaar een einde kwam aan het kerkelijk leven van een kleine dorpsgemeenschap, en welke pastoors en predikanten, kosters en klokkenluiders, voorzangers, boeren en arbeiders er in de loop der tijd hun steentje bijdroegen en hun geloof beleden, wordt beschreven in dit boek.
