Lentz verdedigde zich na de oorlog, net als Eichmann, door te zeggen dat hij deed wat hem werd opgedragen, zonder veel eigen inbreng. Zijn kwaad zou daarmee in de terminologie van Hannah Arendt ‘banaal’ zijn. Dit boek, gebaseerd op nieuw en uitgebreid onderzoek in weinig geraadpleegde archieven, prikt de mythe van het banale kwaad definitief door. Lentz liet zijn dataverzameling bewust uitgroeien tot een instrument van het kwaad en verrijkte zich en passant.

Throughout his life he has worked on new environmental technologies, which are used in industry all over the world. His scientific work is highly cited. Buisman is the Director of Wetsus – European Center for Sustainable Water Technology, and Professor at Wageningen University, in the Netherlands.
