Ze wist op indrukwekkende manier de tijdgeest te vangen in haar vele tuinontwerpen en zette het vak van tuinarchitect op de kaart. Daarnaast deelde ze haar kennis om zoveel mogelijk mensen aan het tuinieren te krijgen. De Tuinen in Dedemsvaart waren haar leven lang haar proeftuin en leefomgeving waarin ze tal van kleinschalige ideeën uitprobeerde en verfijnde. Haar eerste experiment, de Verwilderingstuin, legde ze aan in 1924 en dat was het begin van de wereldberoemd geworden tuinen die jaarlijks duizenden bezoekers trekken uit binnen- en buitenland. In 2024 bestaan de Tuinen 100 jaar. De tuin is een proces laat de ontwikkeling van haar levenswerk in Dedemsvaart zien en maakt duidelijk hoe relevant en toepasbaar haar ideeën nog altijd zijn, nu en ook met het oog op de toekomst. Aangevuld met historisch beeldmateriaal, tuinontwerpen en beplantingsplannen is dit boek relevant voor zowel tuin- en landschapsarchitecten als tuiniers van alle niveaus.
Conny den Hollander is hoofd van de Tuinen Mien Ruys en is dagelijks aan het werk in de dertig proeftuinen in Dedemsvaart. Als geen ander weet zij hoe innovatief en bruikbaar de ontwerpen van Mien Ruys waren en nog altijd zijn.
Victor Horta and the Frison House in Brussels

commissioned by Maurice Frison, a lawyer and friend of the architect, and was built in 1894-1895. Horta designed not only the house, but also all its furniture and decoration, right down to the smallest detail: from door handles to marble fireplaces, from mosaic floors to elegant banisters, from wall lamps to the gratings for the cellar openings. The absolute eyecatcher is the winter garden, whose elegant design allows soft yellow light to flow subtly into its perfectly proportioned space.Nupur Tron is the author of this book and owner of the house. In recent years, she has breathed new life back into Horta’s masterpiece. She pieced together bits of the old chandeliers she found in one of the cellars. She had items of furniture designed by Horta lovingly restored. With great passion, she continues to search for the funds that will allow her to restore the entire house to its former glory, one step at a time.
