De mens heeft altijd al naar het paradijs gestreefd. Meestal blijft het bij een idee, een verlangen naar een perfecte wereld. Toch kwamen de Friese Nassaus er met hun Oranjewoud ooit verrassend dichtbij. Nog steeds is deze buitenplaats een oase van groen, herten en tijdloosheid.

Voor de tentoonstelling ‘Paradys’, in 2022 te zien in Oranjewoud, vroeg artistiek leider Hans den Hartog Jager vijftien hedendaagse kunstenaars om zowel te reflecteren op de paradijselijke omgeving van dit voormalige lustoord als op de rijke geschiedenis vol machtsongelijkheid.
De artistieke resultaten en de achterliggende processen zijn gebundeld in dit boek. In prikkelende essays en verdiepende bijdragen ontdek je hoe de vijftien bijzondere kunstwerken tot stand kwamen. Zo bieden boek en tentoonstelling niet alleen nieuwe perspectieven op het reeds bestaande paradijs, maar ook op het eeuwige menselijke streven naar de hemel op aarde.

Victor Horta and the Frison House in Brussels

Nupur Tron is from India. She studied Design, Marketing & Merchandising and Fine Arts at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. She designs jewellery, in which the different styles of east and west meet in harmony.

Koos van der Sloot
€ 24,90Koos van der Sloot (1953-2018) heeft een leven als stedenbouwkundige in Friesland achter de rug als hij zichzelf opnieuw uitvindt als kunstenaar. Van 2007 tot 2013 maakt hij ruimtelijk werk waarvoor het ei en het landschap van zijn jeugd de inspiratie leveren. Zijn creaties zijn sterk symbolisch en vaak verhalend. Hij speelt veel met de begrippen tijd, leven en dood. Gaandeweg wordt zijn werk abstracter, de ordening wordt leidend. In een volgende fase, van 2014 tot 2018, maken de assemblages met eieren plaats voor bouwkundige constructies. Deze werken vangen op eenvoudige en tegelijk ingenieuze wijze het verglijdende daglicht, met eivormige schaduwgaten als resultaat.
Een breed palet aan auteurs duidt dit werk vanuit kunsthistorisch of persoonlijk perspectief. De toon is afwisselend essayistisch, verhalend of poëtisch. Ook de stem van de kunstenaar zelf klinkt in een aantal van zijn verzen. Dit rijk geïllustreerde boek laat zich hierdoor lezen als een gelaagde documentaire en bevat alle highlights van het eigenzinnige werk en leven van Koos van der Sloot. -
Cache-sexe

The different types of male and female cache-sex are discussed with reference to comprehensive illustrations based on unique and sometimes previously unpublished examples of cache-sexes and photographic documentation. The book also pays attention to the covering of the ‘backside’. Following this 360° exploration of the use of the cache-sexe, the place of the cache-sexe in art and fashion is uncovered.
Philip Van Kerrebroeck is an urologist and professor emeritus of Urology at the University of Maastricht. Born in Leuven (Belgium), he trained in Surgery and Urology in Brussels, Utrecht, Nijmegen and San Francisco. Over the years, he has also developed an interest in the history of urology and cultural anthropology. He is currently chairman of the History Office of the European Association of Urology (EAU).
