Dat menige buitenplaats tegenwoordig een luxehotel is, borduurt voort op de traditie dat de buitenplaats een ideaal decor is voor escapisme. En escapisme mag wat kosten, hoe rijker de mens hoe uitbundiger het escapisme. Na de uitspatting de weemoed.
Moet je schuldig en minder schuldig verleden levend houden en zo ja, hoe?
In deze bundel reflecteren Grunberg en anderen over een tijd dat de Voorzienigheid nog de scepter zwaaide over de mensen. Zoals de worm gedoemd is om te kruipen en de vogel om te vliegen, zo leken ooit ongelijkheid en onrechtvaardigheid de vanzelfsprekende doem van de mensheid.

Philip Van Kerrebroeck is an urologist and professor emeritus of Urology at the University of Maastricht. Born in Leuven (Belgium), he trained in Surgery and Urology in Brussels, Utrecht, Nijmegen and San Francisco. Over the years, he has also developed an interest in the history of urology and cultural anthropology. He is currently chairman of the History Office of the European Association of Urology (EAU).
