Toen Enea Silvio Piccolomini in 1458 in Rome werd verkozen tot paus Pius II, bleven demonen uit zijn verleden hem achtervolgen. Voor het eerst sinds lange tijd is de tekst opnieuw in het Nederlands vertaald en voorzien van een inleiding, noten en een uitgebreide nabespreking.
