The Sonian Forest has been recognised as part of the Unesco World Heritage site ‘Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests’. Despite land sales followed by large-scale deforestation in the 1830’s, this wooded area on the outskirts of Brussels sill covers more than 5,000 ha.

Fauna en Flora van de Vlaamse kust
€ 17,50De historische Vlaamse kust maakt deel uit van de Noordwest-Europese kustvlakte die zich uitstrekt van Noord-Frankrijk tot Denemarken. Deze gids behandelt een lang en smal gebied van ongeveer 120 kilometer lang en minder dan 5 kilometer breed. De grensoverschrijdende (Nederland, België en Frankrijk) regio herbergt een grote variatie aan leefgebieden voor fauna en flora: zandstranden, slikken, schorren, stuivende duinen, mosduinen, duinpannen, duingraslanden, duinstruwelen en duinbossen. Ook oudere, ontkalkte duingebieden met soorten die kenmerkend zijn voor zure, droge zandgronden kunnen we er aantreffen. Leefgebieden van rotskusten worden hier vervangen door golfbrekers, staketsels en andere door de mens aangebrachte structuren.
Fauna en Flora van de Vlaamse kust is het vierde deel in de reeks schitterende veldgidsen over belangrijke natuurgebieden in de Benelux. Ze zijn geïllustreerd met prachtige diarama’s van de leefgebieden en honderden levensechte illustraties van de soorten door de bekende Catalaanse natuurillustrator Toni Llobet. De teksten zijn van de vooraanstaande veldecoloog Hans Baeté, en dit alles onder wetenschappelijke leiding van professor Bart Muys.
