In Houtstromen ontrafelt Paul Borghaerts de herkomst van hout waarmee boerderijen gebouwd werden in Noord-Nederland in de periode van 1550 tot 1950. Hij stelt vast dat de herkomst van het hout in de loop van de jaren verschoof. Zo werd er aanvankelijk hout uit West-Duitsland en Zuid-Noorwegen geïmporteerd, maar later uit de Baltische staten en zelfs Wit-Rusland.
Om tot dit inzicht te komen heeft de auteur verschillende onderzoeksgebieden gecombineerd. Zo bestudeerde hij duizenden archiefstukken, heeft hij van meer dan 200 boerderijen de draagconstructie ingemeten, en heeft hij dendrochronologische dateringen gedaan. Dit laatste maakte het mogelijk om elke onderzochte boerderij tot op het jaar nauwkeurig te dateren. Daarmee heeft hij de ontwikkeling van de greidschuur of greidboerderij, die in het brandpunt van de economische ontwikkeling van het rurale gebied in Nederland stonden, tot in detail zichtbaar gemaakt. De nieuwe kennis geeft inzicht in de internationale netwerken van de (hout)handel, en is ook van belang voor onderzoek naar oude gebouwen in Nederland en naar schepen van bijvoorbeeld de VOC.

Philip Van Kerrebroeck is an urologist and professor emeritus of Urology at the University of Maastricht. Born in Leuven (Belgium), he trained in Surgery and Urology in Brussels, Utrecht, Nijmegen and San Francisco. Over the years, he has also developed an interest in the history of urology and cultural anthropology. He is currently chairman of the History Office of the European Association of Urology (EAU).

Op reis met de NTM
€ 17,50In 1880 werd de Nederlandsche Tramweg Maatschappij (NTM) opgericht. Doel van het bedrijf was in Nederland trambanen aan te leggen en te exploiteren, te beginnen met paardentrams, al snel gevolgd door de stoomtram.
Busliefhebber Melle van der Goot schetst in dit boek de geschiedenis van de NTM; de uitbreiding van het bedrijf in Noord-Nederland tot 1920 en de concurrentie van en overstap naar autobussen in de jaren dertig. Vervolgens beschrijft de auteur de woelige oorlogsjaren en de bloei van het bedrijf in het eerste decennium na de bevrijding, totdat de NTM in 1971 opging in de FRAM. Op reis met de NTM is rijk geïllustreerd met uniek beeldmateriaal uit privéverzamelingen en bedrijfsarchieven. -
