Attische nachten is een hoogtepunt uit de klassieke traditie. Het oudst bewaarde exemplaar werd in 836 overgeschreven in het klooster van Fulda. Dit handschrift is opgenomen in de collectie van Tresoar en wordt gezien als het oudste boek in Nederland.
Tinne Horemans vertaalde voor deze bloemlezing als eerste deze essays in het Nederlands. Zij is leerkracht Nederlands en Latijn en schreef eerder artikelen voor het tijdschrift voor antieke cultuur Hermeneus.
