De Nieuwe Drents(ch)e Volksalmanak, opvolger van de Drentsche Volksalmanak (1837-1851), verschijnt sinds 1883. In de loop van de jaren is de almanak uitgegroeid tot hét historisch en archeologisch jaarboek van Drenthe. De almanak biedt zowel een podium aan professionele onderzoekers als aan amateurhistorici en -archeologen die de resultaten van hun onderzoek op wetenschappelijk verantwoorde wijze aan een breed publiek willen presenteren.
In dit nummer is een tiental uitgebreide artikelen opgenomen, onder meer over de belangwekkende opgraving in Peest die op stapel staat, over Karolingische muntschatten in Drenthe, over de vervolging van Sinti en Roma en over opkopers van Joods onroerend goed. Een groot aantal historische afbeeldingen maakt deze almanak compleet.
De redactie van het geschiedenisdeel bestaat uit Mark Goslinga, Ineke den Hollander, Vincent Tassenaar, Gerben de Vries, Joke Wolff en Jan van Zijveren, en die van het archeologiedeel uit Floor Huisman, Mans Schepers, Jelke Take en Vincent van Vilsteren.

Buisman is the Director of Wetsus – European Center for Sustainable Water Technology, and Professor at Wageningen University, in the Netherlands.
