Met Takkenhoogte laat Han van Hagen zien dat hij de etstechniek op een uitzonderlijk hoog niveau heeft gebracht. Hij werd daarbij geïnspireerd door Hercules Segers, de wonderbaarlijke etser uit de zeventiende eeuw.
De wordingsgeschiedenis van dit werk wordt in deze uitgave getoond door meer dan 200 verschillende afdrukken van dezelfde prent. Die verschillen zijn ontstaan door steeds weer nieuwe technieken te gebruiken en andere kleuren toe te passen, die hij voor of na het drukken verwerkte. Han van Hagen gebruikte kleurinkten, maar schilderde ook met olieverf in de afdrukken en vond nieuwe technieken uit.
Han van Hagen (1944) is één van Nederlands beste etsers. Hij verbeeldt op figuratieve wijze landschappen, dieren en planten. Werk van hem is opgenomen in het Rijksprentenkabinet in Amsterdam.

Throughout his life he has worked on new environmental technologies, which are used in industry all over the world. His scientific work is highly cited. Buisman is the Director of Wetsus – European Center for Sustainable Water Technology, and Professor at Wageningen University, in the Netherlands.
