In 1975 startte de aanleg van Natuurpark Lelystad. Een gebied met grote grazers als wisent, Przewalskipaard en eland, aangelegd voor de nieuwe bewoners van Lelystad en de rest van Flevoland. Maar ook een natuurgebied om te wandelen, te ontspannen en jaarrond grote aantallen watervogels te bewonderen.
In 2025 bestaat het park 50 jaar. Begonnen als een project van de Rijksdienst voor de IJsselmeerpolders, in samenwerking met Artis, is Natuurpark Lelystad uitgegroeid tot een rijk natuurgebied met grote waterpartijen, spannende doorkijkjes en verrassende dieren. Een bijzonder stuk Flevolandse historie dat verteld moet worden. Met meer dan honderd foto’s van de eerste aanleg in de vette kleibodem, de bijzondere dieren, en de prachtige natuur die zich hier heeft ontwikkeld.
