Jopie Huisman werd beroemd omdat hij het vak van voddenboer combineerde met schilderen. Het (her)gebruiken van oude goederen werd voor hem belangrijk toen hij zijn eigen leven spiegelde in een versleten melkersbroek. Hij schilderde die broek met een gevoel van mededogen.
Het gaf hem de stimulans om de maatschappij in die weggegooide goederen te verbeelden, met een precisie en concentratie die verbluffend was. Daarmee maakte hij een belangrijke stap als schilder; eerder schilderde hij vooral het landschap rond zijn geboorteplaats Workum.
Dit boek bevat het verhaal over Jopie en toont alle belangrijke schilderijen uit de collectie van het Jopie Huisman Museum in Workum.

Philip Van Kerrebroeck is an urologist and professor emeritus of Urology at the University of Maastricht. Born in Leuven (Belgium), he trained in Surgery and Urology in Brussels, Utrecht, Nijmegen and San Francisco. Over the years, he has also developed an interest in the history of urology and cultural anthropology. He is currently chairman of the History Office of the European Association of Urology (EAU).

Victor Horta and the Frison House in Brussels
