In dit collectieboek is informatie over alle ca. 2000 werken in de collectie van Museum Belvédère te vinden. Na de inleiding bestaat het eerste – meer beeldende – deel uit een weergave van talrijke hoogtepunten uit de collectie, ingedeeld naar thema’s als: ‘zon – zee – duinen’; ‘mensen – koppen – portretten’ en ‘bloemen – struiken – bomen’. Het twee deel bestaat uit een alfabetische opsomming van alle kunstwerken uit de collectie, die op naam van de kunstenaar terug te vinden zijn. Als geheel biedt het boek een uniek overzicht van de moderne en hedendaagse kunst die het museum rijk is. Het toont werk van belangrijke Friese schilders als Jan Mankes, Thijs Rinsema, Tames Oud, Gerrit Benner, Boele Bregman, Willem van Althuis en Sjoerd de Vries, maar laat daarnaast ook werken van geestverwanten uit binnen- en buitenland zien.
Het collectieboek wordt ingeleid en is samengesteld door Han Steenbruggen, die sinds 2008 directeur-conservator van Museum Belvédère is.

Victor Horta and the Frison House in Brussels

Nupur Tron is from India. She studied Design, Marketing & Merchandising and Fine Arts at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. She designs jewellery, in which the different styles of east and west meet in harmony.

Helmen vol verhalen
€ 25,00Helmen Vol Verhalen is een landelijk project waarin veteranen worden gekoppeld aan kunstenaars, die het persoonlijke missieverhaal van de veteraan vertalen in een kunstwerk waarin de ‘helm’ als metafoor voor het militaire beroep is verwerkt. In het boek Helmen Vol Verhalen worden de verhalen van de veteranen opgenomen en ook het verhaal van de kunstenaar achter het werk. Het vertelt waarom en hoe het kunstwerk tot stand is gekomen. Op de voorgrond staat het verhaal van de veteraan, over ‘op missie gaan’. Veel Nederlanders kunnen zich daar niets bij voorstellen. Deze verhalen geven een indrukwekkend inzicht in de werkelijkheid en de impact dat het heeft op de veteranen en hun thuisfront.
Als oud-matroos en veteraan leidt Amy van Son het project Helmen vol verhalen. ‘In vroegere tijden rukte het hele dorp uit om haar krijgers binnen te halen na een veldslag. Dat kun je je nu niet meer voorstellen. Zeker niet als het ‘jonge’ veteranen betreft. Om weer meer begrip en erkenning voor veteranen te krijgen, moeten burgers weten wat het betekent om naar een oorlog gestuurd te worden. Maar veel veteranen vinden het moeilijk hun ervaringen onder woorden te brengen. Daarom laten we veteranen hun verhaal vertellen aan een kunstenaar. Die vertaalt dat naar een kunstwerk. Het proces, het eindresultaat en de band die daaruit ontstaan, zijn helend.’

Cache-sexe
€ 34,90This book asks why humans through history have covered their genitals and worn a cache-sexe. Does the cache-sexe merely provide protection, or is it an instrument to draw attention? Can the cache-sexe be used to stimulate certain thoughts? Why does not wearing a cache-sexe provoke shame one society but not in another? Are nudity and nakedness the same?
On his quest to answer these questions, the author takes the reader on a review of the anatomy of the female and male genitals and reflects on how this part of the human body has been perceived over time and in various cultures. The different types of male and female cache-sex are discussed with reference to comprehensive illustrations based on unique and sometimes previously unpublished examples of cache-sexes and photographic documentation. The book also pays attention to the covering of the ‘backside’. Following this 360° exploration of the use of the cache-sexe, the place of the cache-sexe in art and fashion is uncovered.
Philip Van Kerrebroeck is an urologist and professor emeritus of Urology at the University of Maastricht. Born in Leuven (Belgium), he trained in Surgery and Urology in Brussels, Utrecht, Nijmegen and San Francisco. Over the years, he has also developed an interest in the history of urology and cultural anthropology. He is currently chairman of the History Office of the European Association of Urology (EAU).
