In de huidige tijd herzien we onze relatie met de natuur. Natuurfilosoof Matthijs Schouten ziet dat daarin in korte tijd echt iets wezenlijks verandert. In de landbouw, de kunst en in steden, overal bruist het van de groene en natuurinclusieve initiatieven. Ook klinkt op allerlei plekken vaker de stem van de natuur zélf. We zijn niet zo machteloos als we vaak denken, benadrukt Schouten, die naast ecoloog en filosoof ook boeddhist is. Maar met alleen de rede komen we er niet. Het is cruciaal dat we andere vermogens aanspreken én oefenen.

Matthijs Schouten is emeritus bijzonder hoogleraar Ecologie en Filosofie aan Wageningen University & Research en hoogleraar Natuur- en landschapsbescherming aan de University College Cork, in Ierland. Tot begin 2024 was hij als ‘huisfilosoof’ verbonden aan Staatsbosbeheer en hij is dat nu nog aan het Natuurcollege.

Cees Buisman studied water purification engineering, in addition to business administration, communication theory and applied integral psychology. Throughout his life he has worked on new environmental technologies, which are used in industry all over the world. His scientific work is highly cited. Buisman is the Director of Wetsus – European Center for Sustainable Water Technology, and Professor at Wageningen University, in the Netherlands.
