De mens heeft altijd al naar het paradijs gestreefd. Meestal blijft het bij een idee, een verlangen naar een perfecte wereld. Toch kwamen de Friese Nassaus er met hun Oranjewoud ooit verrassend dichtbij. Nog steeds is deze buitenplaats een oase van groen, herten en tijdloosheid.
Maar valt zo’n paradijs tegenwoordig wel te handhaven? Hoe maakbaar is de wereld nog? Voor de tentoonstelling ‘Paradys’, in 2022 te zien in Oranjewoud, vroeg artistiek leider Hans den Hartog Jager vijftien hedendaagse kunstenaars om zowel te reflecteren op de paradijselijke omgeving van dit voormalige lustoord als op de rijke geschiedenis vol machtsongelijkheid.
De artistieke resultaten en de achterliggende processen zijn gebundeld in dit boek. In prikkelende essays en verdiepende bijdragen ontdek je hoe de vijftien bijzondere kunstwerken tot stand kwamen. Zo bieden boek en tentoonstelling niet alleen nieuwe perspectieven op het reeds bestaande paradijs, maar ook op het eeuwige menselijke streven naar de hemel op aarde.

Nupur Tron is from India. She studied Design, Marketing & Merchandising and Fine Arts at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. She designs jewellery, in which the different styles of east and west meet in harmony.

Museum Belvédère
€ 49,90In dit collectieboek is informatie over alle ca. 2000 werken in de collectie van Museum Belvédère te vinden. Na de inleiding bestaat het eerste – meer beeldende – deel uit een weergave van talrijke hoogtepunten uit de collectie, ingedeeld naar thema’s als: ‘Havens, zee, duinen’; ‘Mensen, koppen, portretten’ en ‘Bloemen, struiken, bomen’. Het twee deel bestaat uit een alfabetische opsomming van alle kunstwerken uit de collectie, die op naam van de kunstenaar terug te vinden zijn. Als geheel biedt het boek een uniek overzicht van de moderne en hedendaagse kunst die het museum rijk is. Het toont werk van belangrijke Friese schilders als Jan Mankes, Thijs Rinsema, Tames Oud, Gerrit Benner, Boele Bregman, Willem van Althuis en Sjoerd de Vries, maar laat daarnaast ook werken van geestverwanten uit binnen- en buitenland zien.
Het collectieboek wordt ingeleid en is samengesteld door Han Steenbruggen, die sinds 2008 directeur-conservator van Museum Belvédère is.
